Terms of Service

The rules of using Thrown & Found, in plain language. This covers the legal side of things — for the community/conduct side, see our Community Guidelines.

Last updated 25 August 2026 · version 2026-08-25

1. Acceptance of these terms

By creating an account or otherwise using Thrown & Found (the "Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service. You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service — see our Privacy Policy for details on our age requirement.

2. What the Service is

Thrown & Found lets users photograph and post items they're discarding so others nearby can find and take them, plus related features like saved-search alerts, a coin-based reward system for contributing, and community "Pods" curated by local admins.

3. Your account

You're responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for all activity under your account. Tell us right away if you suspect unauthorized access. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or our Community Guidelines, at our discretion, with or without notice depending on severity.

4. Content you post

You keep ownership of the photos and text you upload. By posting content, you grant Thrown & Found a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, display, reproduce, and distribute that content as needed to operate the Service (for example, showing your photo to other users on the map, or processing it to generate automatic tags — see our Privacy Policy's AI-based products section). This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies already made as part of normal backups, which are purged on our regular retention schedule.

You're responsible for what you post. Don't upload anything you don't have the right to share, anything illegal, or anything that violates someone else's privacy or property rights. We may remove content that violates these Terms or our Community Guidelines — see section 7.

5. No warranty on items or pickups

Thrown & Found doesn't verify who owns an item, whether it's actually abandoned, or its safety or condition. Taking an item you found through the Service is entirely your own judgment call and at your own risk — check local laws on scavenging/salvage, and don't take anything from private property without permission. We are not a party to, and have no responsibility for, any pickup, exchange, or dispute between users.

6. The coin economy

Coins are earned by contributing (uploading items, submitting corrections) and spent on in-app features (creating saved-search alarms). Coins have no cash value, cannot be purchased, sold, exchanged for money, or transferred between accounts, and exist solely as an in-app engagement mechanic. We may adjust coin values or rules at any time.

7. Moderation and enforcement

We moderate reported content and may change an item's status (including removing it) when it violates our Community Guidelines or these Terms. When we do, we record a reason, and if the action was taken by an admin against your own listing, you can submit a one-time appeal through the app; we'll review it and respond. This doesn't apply to routine crowd-sourced status updates (like another user marking an item "Collected"), which aren't moderation actions.

8. Advertising

We may show advertising within the Service in the future. If we do, we'll update this section and our Privacy Policy with the specifics (what's shown, how it's targeted, and what controls you have) before it ships, and we won't show ads targeted using a minor's data.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don't guarantee the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any listing's information (including AI-generated tags) is accurate.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Thrown & Found and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, including damages related to items picked up through the Service, moderation decisions, or content posted by other users. Nothing in these Terms limits liability where the law doesn't allow it to be limited (for example, liability for our own gross negligence or willful misconduct, where applicable).

11. Changes to the Service or these Terms

We may modify or discontinue features of the Service at any time. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when these Terms change, and ask you to re-accept them if the change is material — same as our Privacy Policy.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Spain, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, unless a mandatory consumer-protection law in your own country of residence gives you additional rights that can't be waived by agreement.
